An Architecture of Stillness
Nusa Penida’s Only 5-Star Eco-Retreat

A Sanctuary of Stillness, an architectural integration on the cliffs of Gamat Bay, where the earth meets the soul, where an endless skyline has panoramic sea views, natural forest scenery, and Mount Agung shaping an unforgettable island backdrop.

Wabi-Sabi Design:
Beauty in Imperfection

Our sanctuary is a silent conversation with the earth, where the “patina of time” meets the raw volcanic spirit of Nusa Penida. Inspired by the modernist precision of Le Corbusier and softened by the Japanese soul of Wabi-Sabi, our architecture celebrates the beauty of impermanence and the integrity of natural materials.

With thoughtfully curated interiors, luxury here is no longer measured by excess, but by the profound quality of silence and the depth of one’s reflection.

"We don't build to last forever, we build to age beautifully alongside the island"

Culinary Artistry Infused with Conscious Craft

At MĀUA, luxury is defined by the integrity of the ingredient.

Our culinary philosophy is a tribute to Nusa Penida’s rugged terroir, where every dish tells a story of the island’s seasonal rhythms. By championing a hyper-local approach and a deep commitment to our community, we bridge the gap between soil and soul.

Sustainable by Design,
Minimalist by Nature

Sustainability at Māua is not a modern addition, but our founding pulse. We believe that true luxury is an act of preservation, commitment to exist in a symbiotic embrace with Nusa Penida’s fragile beauty. Our architecture and operations are designed to be “discrete but omnipresent”, ensuring that your stay supports the island’s vitality without compromising its serenity.

Explore Nusa Penida's Untamed Spirit

Beyond our gates lies an island of dramatic contrasts and ancient energy. Nusa Penida is Bali’s rugged frontier, a landscape of soaring limestone cliffs, secret cerulean bays, and a culture that remains deeply tethered to its roots.

This is a destination for the spirited explorer, where the power of the Indian Ocean meets the silence of hidden temples. We invite you to venture into the wild heart of the archipelago, where every vista is a reminder of nature’s unyielding beauty and the luxury of true discovery.

Getting Here

The best way to reach MĀUA Nusa Penida from Ngurah Rai International Airport is to first travel by car (about 30–45 minutes) to Sanur Harbor in Bali, then take a speedboat to Nusa Penida, which typically takes around 30 minutes. Upon arrival at the Nusa Penida ferry terminal, continue with a car transfer for 20 minutes to reach the resort at Gamat Bay.

Inspired by a sacred andesite rock carving named “MĀUA” located at the Taranaki farm of the Faull family, the founders and owners of Swiss-Belhotel International. Translating to “Togetherness”, the brand name reflects a philosophy of unity and the strength of people living in harmony with nature.

As a luxury eco-retreat concept, MĀUA serves as a sustainable sanctuary designed to offer an all-encompassing “Wellness” experience. By blending this rich New Zealand heritage with global hospitality expertise, the brand creates a space for physical and spiritual rejuvenation. The “Manuhiri” (guests) are invited to escape the bustle of everyday life and rediscover peace through mindful design, organic habitations, and a holistic approach to wellbeing.
