In collaboration with:
FRIENDS OF NATURE, PEOPLE AND FOREST

Organic Farming & Food Sustainability

  1. On-site organic garden supplying fresh ingredients for Kōwhai Restaurant.
  2. Farm-to-table dining philosophy centering local produce, reducing transport footprint.
  3. Use of natural, home-grown ingredients in wellness drinks and treatments.
  4. Sourcing only cage-free eggs, directly improving animal welfare in our supply chain

Environmental Architecture & Design

  1. Villas designed with sloped natural terrain to preserve mature trees and natural contours.
  2. Extensive glass panels for passive lighting, reducing energy consumption.
  3. Thermal insulation and passive cooling systems to minimise reliance on air-conditioning.
  4. Planters roofs above concrete slab to improve insulation and reduce heat absorption.
  5. Architecture that maintains complete privacy without enclosing walls, reducing material use.
  6. Wabi-Sabi–inspired use of recycled ironwood furniture, celebrating natural imperfections.
  7. Construction philosophy rooted in Māori values of whenua (respect for the land) and mauri (life force).

Energy & Resource Efficiency

  1. Thermal insulation, natural airflow, and passive cooling systems keep our villas comfortable and allow all public areas to remain completely air-conditioner free, greatly reducing energy use.
  2. Greywater recycling nourishes our gardens while conserving freshwater resources.
  3. Variable Speed Pumps stabilise water pressure and optimise greywater reuse while lowering electricity and water demand.
  4. Energy-efficient fixtures and water-saving systems are installed throughout the resort to support mindful resource use.
  5. Regular descaling every six months removes 1 mm of mineral buildup from heating elements, improving efficiency by up to 10% and keeping our eco-luxury operations gentle on the environment.

Waste Reduction & Circular Practices

  1. Resort-wide ban on single-use plastics.
  2. “Less paper” operational policy, replacing most printed materials with digital alternatives.
  3. Composting system that turns food waste into organic fertilizer for the gardens.
  4. Recycling program covering wood, glass, organic waste, and used materials.
  5. Reuse of recycled ironwood and natural materials across villas and public spaces.

Biodiversity & Wildlife Protection

  1. Supporting sea turtle conservation through hatchling release programs in collaboration with a local NGO in Ped, Nusa Penida.
  2. Participation in Bali Starling conservation, protecting one of Indonesia’s most endangered bird species.
  3. The Kambing Gembrong, a gentle long-haired goat breed native to Bali and once a symbol of nobility, is now critically endangered due to habitat loss, crossbreeding, and low awareness — a story that MĀUA is committed to helping preserve.

Wellness & Holistic Sustainable Living

  1. Pounamu Wellness & Spa integrates natural elements and sacred Māori values of harmony and balance.
  2. Yoga and meditation spaces built to blend into the forest canopy, harnessing natural airflow and sunlight.
  3. Treatments use locally sourced, natural ingredients.
  4. Wellness programmes designed to restore mauri—inner vitality—through gentle, nature-led experiences.

Cultural Sustainability & Community Respect

  1. Weekly cultural classes: Balinese dance, sarong making, coconut weaving, and Mejejaitan offerings.
  2. Support for local communities through training, collaboration, and cultural programmes.
